Earlier this year, I started a budget. I’m saving up to go to Hawaii in 2019 and I want to have as much spending money as possible and being a single home owner, it can be hard to find the cash to put away when you’re constantly buying new products to test out or falling for a fancy new release. So one of the things I really cut down on was spending on makeup, because being Australian, it’s all super expensive here – even at the drug store.
But last month, I was lucky enough to get a small performance bonus at work and I decided in the spirit of fun, I’d save some and spend some and with that I popped on down to Priceline to pick up a few goodies and I thought I’d share them with you here on the blog because I found a few new favourite products in the mix!
My original plan was to buy a bottle of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation after reading some rave reviews on the recent reformulation but in the end after swatching some of the testers, I decided against picking that up, the fact that I’m working through six other bottles of foundation entered my mind, it was just more that I didn’t like the colours on offer.
I probably went a little bit too hard on the lip products, but since some of them were buy one get one free, I couldn’t help it!
Loreal Paris Infallible Sexy Balm is an old favourite, I previously mentioned it in my post about my face favourites, they’re absolutely wonderful for an easy to apply swash of colour for the lips. They aren’t long lasting and I do find myself reapplying a fair bit during the day but they are so moisturising and they sit so well on my chapped lips that I have absolutely no issue with consistently picking them up throughout the day. I picked up the shades “As If”, “Whaaat” and “Yala Yolo”. These were 30% off so I paid $10.50 each, but they’re normally available for $14.95 each.
Maybelline Lip Studio Colour Jolt Lip Paint isn’t a true lip gloss, yet isn’t a lip stick either. It reminds me a lot of a sheer version of the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks and funnily enough, the helpful cashier at Priceline also mentioned this as well to me as I was checking out. I picked up two colours, “Stripped Down”, the perfect “my lips but better” nude for me and “Red-Dy or Not”, a crimson delight which looks so fresh and striking! These are also not long lasting but are moisturising and comfortable to wear – you might think I’m rather repetitive with this but with my lips cracking badly this winter to the point where liquid lipstick is not even close to being an option, this is something that’s really important to me at the moment. These cost $14.95 each, which is half of the price of the Melted Lipsticks at Mecca ($30).
Essence Matt Touch Blush in Berry Me Up could be the contender for the best blush purchase of the year and I’ve purchased a lot of blush this year, including the ever popular Marc Jacobs Air Blush. I have a lot of acne scarring on my cheeks as well as enlarged pores, so I find shimmery blushes can be a bit of a no-go zone as it can emphasise those areas and some matte blushes can be a bit too cakey over a matte foundation so I’ve always struggled with blush – this one, however is great! I’m naturally quite heavy handed with blush application, but this has the perfect amount of pigmentation to make my cheeks pop rather than make my cheeks clown like. Essence is probably one of the cheapest brands at Priceline and for my first foray in to the brand, so far I’m pretty impressed. This blush only cost me $5.10, so I’ll be adding other colours and formulas to my wish list for my next Priceline visit!
Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara in Browny Browns is supposed to be a dupe of the Benefit Gimme Brow, which I’ve been a fond user of for ages, but let me tell you a secret – I actually think this is better. I find my Gimme Brow dries up so quickly and hardly lasts but this doesn’t seem to be affected in any similar way that I can see so far. Gimme Brow is also $40 and this product is a whopping $5.10. I don’t think I’ll be going back to Benefit products any time soon after trying this pretty little tube.
Maybelline Lash Sensation Black Pearl Mascara is a big change for me, being a life long lover of tubing mascaras but as it was 30% off, I thought I might give it a go. It has a fan style brush which I found a bit odd to use at first, being used to the traditional style brush, but after a few attempts and a few black smudges on my face, I worked it out and I’m applying like an expert now. Look, I’m not a massive mascara girl – I don’t particularly care for it in general as I have a genetic condition called distichiasis, where I have a second row of lashes that grow along the eyelid, and sometimes they can cause issues with my eyes so when I do wear mascara I stick to tubing mascaras as they tend not to budge once they’re applied. I think this is a great mascara as it definitely defines the lashes and makes them more fan like but for me, it’s nothing special. I picked this up on sale, so it was $15.36 but I certainly wouldn’t pay the full price of $21.95 for it.
All in all, I’m pretty happy with my purchases and even more so when I got $5 off from my Priceline Sister Club points too!
Have you had a makeup haul recently? What did you pick up? Have you tried any of these products before?
